Watch out, Broadway! The Soul Patrol is coming to town! Taylor Hicks, season five winner of American Idol, has become the latest in an ever-growing line of Idol contestants to land a role in a Broadway show.
Beginning in June, Hicks will be portraying Teen Angel in the Broadway production of Grease. This is the role made so famous in the 1978 movie by teen heartthrob Frankie Avalon, and has been played over the years on Broadway by Chubby Checker and Al Jarreau, among other famous names.
The role has only one song–Beauty School Dropout, sung to the character Frenchy–but it’s a flashy song that has Hicks’ name written all over it. Hicks plans to bring some of his soul style to the song in hopes that, after this Broadway run he might score a bigger and better Broadway role in the future.
Do you think Hicks will be a hit?
